City to Break Ground on New Baseball Stadium

Editor’s Note: A press conference, only for the media, will be held on Monday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. in City Hall Council Chamber. Samples of building and stadium materials will be displayed during the press conference. Please do not publicize the press conference to the public.

(Fayetteville, N.C.) — The City of Fayetteville and Houston Astros will break ground on a new downtown baseball stadium Monday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. The groundbreaking will be held across from the Fayetteville Police Department and adjacent to the Prince Charles Hotel on Hay Street. The new stadium will be located between the Prince Charles Hotel and the Subway/Amtrak Station.

The U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team, the Black Daggers, will take part in the groundbreaking event. The Black Daggers will perform a freefall parachute demonstration jump into the event, flying in the U.S flag, North Carolina flag, City flag and Astros flag.

City and Astros officials will also be present.

Media and attendees can park in the Maiden Lane Parking Lot, which is used for Fourth Friday and Festival Park events and located behind the AIT building.
